Where is your Cacao sourced from?

We're so glad you asked, because there's a new chapter to our cacao sourcing story that we absolutely love to share! And this chapter is all about our commitment to Superfoods with Purpose (which you can read more about here) and how that helped drive our decision to move our cacao sourcing in 2020 from Peru to Sierra Leone (a project that you can read more about here).

The were many reasons for the change, but one of the most compelling for us was a deep desire to do better for the planet. Regenerative agriculture, coupled with organic farming practices, is a way to grow food that gives back to the earth through carbon sequestration, increased biodiversity, restored topsoil, and more. The Sierra Leone Cacao Project, nestled in the Gola National Rainforest, is a growing cooperative doing just that. Using regenerative agriculture techniques, they're producing premium quality cacao while supporting the earth and their community, and we're thrilled to be a part of it.

What hasn't changed? Everything else! Our cacao is still non-alkalized, certified Fairtrade and organic, and densely packed with antioxidants, minerals, and fiber. You can enjoy it in smoothies, baked goods, bowls, and more, or as a 1:1 swap for regular cocoa powder in all your favorite recipes. For more inspiration, check out our cacao recipes here!
